Release date calculator

Estimate the good-time release date, the First Step Act credit dates, when the halfway house and home confinement could start, and what RDAP could take off. It is an estimate to plan with: the Bureau of Prisons' own sentence computation controls, so check it against their paperwork.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is stored or sent anywhere unless you choose to save it to a case. Where FSA credits fit in the seven phases.

The sentence

As imposed by the judge. 17½ years is 210 months.

If they were already in custody at sentencing, use the sentencing date.

Only if it's later than the sentence start, e.g. weeks in county jail or with the Marshals after sentencing. Before Sept 30, 2026, FSA credits only started at arrival.

Days spent in federal custody before the sentence started. Usually on the Judgment or the sentence computation sheet. Not time on pretrial release.

If not, good time is 42 days a year instead of 54.

FSA credits can only shorten the prison term if there is supervised release after it.

PATTERN risk

From the latest FSA assessment or program review sheet. Not sure? The estimate counts the slower rate, 10 days per 30, until you pick a level or add an assessment.

Assessment history (optional)

The 15-day rate starts after two assessments in a row at Minimum or Low. Assessments happen at each program review, roughly every 180 days. If you only know the current level, pick it above and we'll assume the second Low lands at the next review. The results say so next to the release date.

This is the day the rate goes from 10 to 15 days per 30. Leave it blank to keep the slower rate until you know their scores.

    Eligibility and earning

Some offenses can't earn FSA credits (18 U.S.C. § 3632(d)(4)(D)). Ask the unit team or check the FSA assessment sheet.

They still earn credits but BOP can't apply them while it's in place.

    Gaps in earning status (optional)

Stretches when credits were not being earned: county jail, the SHU pending an investigation, in transit, or refusing programming.

      Incident reports (optional)

From the DHO report. Leave blank if none.

        RDAP
        Second Chance Act

Usually said in months, like "6 months RRC". It is on the RRC referral or the program review sheet, usually decided 17 to 19 months before release.

Leave blank for the usual amount: the lesser of 10% of the sentence or 6 months.

        Advanced

Credits earned through this date count as banked. Leave it on today unless you are checking an older worksheet.
